In Kannada, there is a proverb “Parivarthane Jagada Niyam ” meaning change is the law of nature. This seems like a metaphysical quantity. To accept it as a physical quantity it needs evaluation. In this article, I will make an attempt.
Change is the law of nature (philosophical sense) is accepted concept by we humans. Many a time I wonder is what is this change. what we mean by term change. I just do not want to restrict my thoughts to philosophy but even want a look at it more objectively like an entity or quantity.
what change means?
Change for an observar would be mean detecting difference between arrangement of particles at different times
The questions I am trying find the answer are.
- Why at all we are seeing changes now?
- Will change ever cease to happen?
If the observer is not in a position to detect the difference over time then he would say the change has not happened.
Will change as an entity ever ceases to change. will it ever so happen that all that around us stays as they are forever? Or is this change what we are seeing is a manifestation of some kind of an anomaly.
Entropy increases over time.
If any arrangement, is left alone without any external intervention then it would slowly disorder over time, this is an old concept in physics.
Newer thinking is there would be uniformity over time i.e. all the particles will get arranged uniformly over course of time. If this is true then why were they arranged non-uniformly before.
Our Big-Bang theory talks about events after banging, nothing before it. At the early stage of the universe, Primordial fluctuations lead the formation of structures we see today. thus our universe is a non-uniform ie galaxy, large space, solar system, planets, stars. supernova red giant, dwarfs and etc.
In future change will cease to happen.
Most accepted concept of the fate of the universe is the open universe. In far future, all our galaxies will torn apart, even black holes will die and all the matter will decay and the universe will be filled with uniform spread only energy. In such an universe we can not see any change with ongoing times.
If one more big bang occurs with primordial fluctuations then change as an entity may reappear.
Above things suggest that change as an entity has become possible only because our universe is non-uniform today. if in future our (as predicted ) universe becomes uniform, change as an entity will cease to happen.
What we see variety in our universe is the result of primordial fluctuations, this primordial fluctuation could be the result of an anomaly from events before the big bang.
