Betel nut or Areca nut Chewing increase heart attack risk

Betel nut  Areca and Paan Chewing is very common habit in our country more often it is considered benign by the general public, even medical professional do not emphasis on bad effect of betel nut chewing to patients

Recent study published in European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 2013 Meeting by Yamada and colleagues   says that betel nut chewing increase the risk of heart attack.

In their study they analyzed 434 000 subjects, they detected betel nut chewing increased all-cause mortality, obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, and chronic kidney disease.

Betel or areca contain arecal alkoliods this can increase chances cancer.

Betel nut increase inflammatory mediators and reactive oxygen species which can increase chronic inflammation. This may lead to diabeties and heart attack.

Betel nut contain Arecoline which increase appitite and increase insulin secretion, betel nut increase heart rate.
In our country diabetes is on raise along with this this habit may increase the diabetic risk further.
